Jada Kund

Jada Kund, also known as Jada Theertham, is a sacred water tank or pond located in Rameswaram, a significant pilgrimage destination in Tamil Nadu, India. It is one of the many theerthams (holy water bodies) associated with the Ramanathaswamy Temple, a famous Shiva temple in the town. The name "Jada Kund" roughly translates to "pond of hair" in reference to its significance in Hindu mythology.

According to Hindu mythology, Lord Rama, an avatar of Lord Vishnu, visited Rameswaram on his journey to Lanka to rescue his wife, Sita. It is believed that while here, Lord Rama washed his hair (jada) in this pond, thereby sanctifying the water. This act is considered highly sacred, and the pond was named Jada Kund in commemoration of the event.

Pilgrims consider it auspicious to perform a bath in Jada Kund as a symbolic act of cleansing and preparation before proceeding for darshan (viewing) of the deity in the Ramanathaswamy Temple.
